Chlamydia in Pediatric Asthma

Chlamydia pneumonia is known to be associated with community-acquired pneumonia, bronchitis, and pharyngitis. new evidence has also linked Chlamydia with exacerbations of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in adults. This subject of attention examined the incidence of Chlamydia in children with asthma. Among the patients with asthma, 33% had infectious chlamydial organisms in their bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples, and 67% of their BAL specimens were positive for Chlamydia by dint of polymerase chain reaction. Elevation of total IgE in the BAL was significantly associated with the port of infectious Chlamydial organisms in BAL. These comes indicate that latent and active Chlamydia is often present in children with asthma. yet to be studies will be necessary to determine the part of Chlamydia in contributing to the unfolding or exacerbation of asthma in pediatric populations.
