Pity the nation that has misspent its voice. Ukraine gained political independence in 1991 relating to the collapse of the USSR on the other hand inherited a shattered agriculture due to centuries of autocratic conduct and political repression. Fortunately, cultural heritage can be reclaimed, at least in part, between the sides of memory--and one of the population helping Ukraine rediscover its voice is Virlana Tkacz, artistic director of the Yara Arts collection at La Mama ETC in recent York.
